DANIEL BURKINSHAWS SEAT AT COMPANIES HOUSE EVENT: DIRECTORS’ RESPONSIBILITY (FLAT MANAGEMENT)

Companies House hosted a free event in Brighton recently to help RMC directors – especially first time directors – gain a greater understanding of their role and responsibilities. ARMA was invited to participate in recognition of its position as experts in leasehold management and Technical Officer, Geraldine Shortall, attended to answer queries and raise the profile of ARMA.

ARMA Council Member Daniel Burkinshaw of Burkinshaw Block Management, also attended and gave an excellent presentation on the role of RMC/RTM directors. Daniel also imparted helpful tips on a number of topics including having the correct tables and legislation at your fingertips, director liabilities, calling general meetings, voting, retirement and removal of directors.

Daniel’s presentation can be viewed by clicking here.

54 delegates attended the 2½ hour seminar in the morning and the event was repeated in the afternoon with 76 present. Attendees in the main self managed their blocks although a few employed managing agents. Several agents attended, including ARMA members.

Feedback from delegates was very positive and it was a worthwhile exercise for ARMA in terms of general profile raising amongst leaseholders. Geraldine and Daniel were also able to answer and provide clarification on a number of issues and questions from the floor.

Speakers from Companies House covered the filing of documents online (paper filing will end soon) and there was significant interest in forthcoming changes to the Register of People with Significant Control, which will come into force from 6th April 2016.
